I recently completed a project for Bongout - they are publishing a series of zines inspired by famous artists…reinterpreted by contemporary artists.
I chose Michelangelo, who has been a favorite of mine since I was little. I always loved his muscular men and women (big surprise, I know) - but I guess out of all the Renaissance masters, there was something dark and off about his pieces, that none of the other masters had. I was always drawn into his work and had an emotional connection with it.
So, I titled my zine “Michelangelo on Horses” - and took pieces of Michelangelo’s paintings and sculptures, and incorporated horses into the mix. There is already something twisted and sexual in his work, and I think the horses just serve as a medium to bring that out.
Above you see a selection of images that will be in the book…more are not pictured. I’ll re-post when the zine is available for purchase!
